Standard Chartered Forecasts $2 Trillion Tokenized RWA Market by 2028
Decentralized finance (DeFi) is poised to disrupt traditional financial systems, with tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) projected to reach $2 trillion by 2028, according to Standard Chartered Bank. The growth will be driven by a self-reinforcing cycle of liquidity and innovation, catalyzed by stablecoin performance in 2025.
Non-stablecoin tokenized assets, currently valued at $35 billion, are expected to match the stablecoin market's $2 trillion valuation within four years. Money market funds (MMFs) and equities could contribute $750 billion each to this expansion.
Geoff Kendrick, Standard Chartered's Head of Digital Assets Research, emphasizes DeFi's Core advantages: elimination of central authorities, transparent operations, and code-based trust. The ecosystem now presents a credible challenge to established financial structures.
